LMTSD Social Studies Best Practices
I led the group tasked with creating LMTSD's Best Practices for Social Studies as part of the ASCD Year One Curriculum Renewal Process. To start the conversation I provided group members with a Best Practices Exemplar and articles with examples of best practices in social studies. The group split into subgroups based upon their area of expertise and were assigned an article. After reviewing the article and listing their own thoughts on best practices via a google doc, the group reconvened discussed their findings and created a general Social Studies Best Practices. Again the group broke into subgroups based on their areas of expertise and further refined the Social Studies Best Practices into grade levels and provided exemplar videos demonstrating the best practice in action.
Social Studies K-12 Curriculum Unit Drafts
Based on advice from a meeting with Heidi Hayes Jacobs, I worked with other members fo the Social Studies Curriculum team to create Social Studies K-12 Curriculum Unit Drafts to help with the curriculum mapping process.
